Two arrested after car crashes into police vehicle, SA

Police have arrested two men in the northern suburbs overnight, according to SA Police.

Just before 1am on Tuesday 28 August, patrols spotted a silver Holden Commodore sedan drive off at speed from a service station on Curtis Road at Smithfield Plains.

Police did not pursue the car which was allegedly involved in a petrol drive off a short time later on Peachey Road at Davoren Park.

PolAir then followed the car from the air as it drove through a number of suburbs before turning into London Court at Craigmore. As patrols entered the court the driver collided with a patrol car in a bid to get away.

The Commodore was then found abandoned in Adams Road and all three occupants ran off. Police apprehended the two passengers with the driver climbing onto the roof of a nearby house. He came down a short time later without further incident.

A 30-year-old man from Elizabeth South, has been charged with engage in police pursuit, drive in a manner dangerous, drive unlicenced, unlawful possession, unassigned plates, drive off without making payment and breach of bail.

A 28-year-old man from Elizabeth Vale was charged with breach of bail.

Both men have been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

A second passenger was taken to the Elizabeth police station and released a short time later without charge.

No one was injured in the crash and the police car sustained minor damage.
