That afternoon, officers responded to a basement car park in Frederick Street, Merewether, following a report of a man acting suspiciously.

He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with enter inclosed lands, goods in custody, larceny and possess prohibited drug. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 8 March 2018.

Newcastle City Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Laksa, said police were continuing to conduct patrols and proactive operations to target theft from motor vehicle offences.
