Two arrested for violent home invasion and robbery at Deloraine, TAS

Police have arrested a man and a woman as part of an investigation into a violent home invasion in Deloraine this morning which resulted in a 56-year-old man being hospitalised with significant injuries, Tasmania Police say.

At around 7am, police and emergency services were called to a residence on Parsonage Street where the male occupant had been injured several hours earlier.  He was transferred by Ambulance to the Launceston General Hospital in a stable condition with significant non-life threatening injuries to his face and body.

"Police investigators have established that at around 4am today, one woman and two men forcefully entered the Parsonage Street residence," said Acting Detective Inspector John Parker.

"As the resident confronted the intruders he was struck with a baseball bat several times.

"He was tied up with rope, causing him to lose consciousness.

"The house was ransacked and property stolen including antiques, power tools, televisions and other household items. The offenders left the scene in the victim’s 2007 Subaru Outback.

"The police investigation led detectives to an address at Phillips Street in Perth where the 36-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were taken into custody and are assisting police with their enquiries.

The Subaru Outback and a significant amount of the stolen property in the vicinity of the Perth property."

"Police are working to identify the other man involved," said Acting Detective Inspector John Parker.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to the matter, or who observed suspicious activity in Parsonage Street, Deloraine, or Phillips Street, Perth, between 12midnight and 7am this morning to come forward.
