Two arrested in stolen vehicle following cross-border operation, NSW

Police have arrested two people in an alleged stolen vehicle in the state’s north after it fled Queensland this morning, NSW Police say.

About 1am today, NSW Police were advised by the Queensland Police Service’s Polair that they were following a stolen vehicle through the Gold Coast and towards the NSW border.

It is alleged the utility had been driven at speed through Logan, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, at one stage ramming a police car.

Once the car reached NSW and continued to travel south on the M1, police monitored the vehicle but did not initiate a pursuit due to the manner of driving.

The utility stopped on Pottsville Road, Mooball, after running out of petrol and a man and woman ran from the scene and attempted to access a nearby house.

They were arrested by officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command who allegedly located a small amount of methylamphetamine, cannabis, ammunition, a knife and other items during a search of the pair.

The 27-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, both from Queensland, were taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

The man was charged with drive manner dangerous, exceed speed by more than 45km/h, drive conveyance without consent, enter enclosed lands, possess prohibited drug, possess ammunition without a permit, drive whilst disqualified, custody of a knife in a public place, and goods in custody. He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.

The woman was charged with being carried in conveyance without consent, enter enclosed lands, and possess prohibited drug. She was granted bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 18 September 2017.

Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command continue to liaise with the Queensland Police Service as inquiries continue.
