Two assaulted in home invasion - Merrylands

Police are investigating a home invasion in Sydney's west, in which two men were injured.

About 7.30pm (Wednesday 19 June 2019), four men, aged 30, 29, and two aged 20, were in their unit on Newman Street, Merrylands, when the 30-year-old man received a phone call from someone he believed wanted to buy his phone that he had listed for sale online.

The man left his unit to meet the man outside, but when he saw there were three males he became concerned and returned to his unit.

After entering his unit, he gave his phone to the 29-year-old occupant and left the apartment.

A short time later the 29-year old occupant went to the front of the unit and was confronted by three men.

These men forced entry into the unit and assaulted the 29-year-old, as well as one of the 20-year-old occupants of the home, who they struck with a large spoon they had taken from the kitchen.

The three offenders then fled the scene after stealing the phone, as well as another phone and a laptop computer.

The victims attended Merrylands Police Station to report the incident.

Officers immediately attended the scene and established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic specialists.

The 29-year-old and 20-year-old who were assaulted were conveyed to Westmead Hospital for treatment to concussion.

Detectives from Cumberland Police Area Command continue with inquiries into the incident.

The three men have been described as being of African appearance.
