Two charged after armed robbery and assault in Newtown

Police have charged a man and a girl over an alleged armed robbery and assault in Newtown earlier this week, NSW Police say.

About 9pm on Tuesday 6 June 2017, a 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl drove to Illawarra Road, Marrickville, where they met with another man, aged 24, and a woman, aged 18.

They drove to an address in Newtown where an altercation took place.

Police have been told the 37-year-old man and the 14-year-old girl, armed with a weapon, possibly a taser, assaulted the 24-year-old man, before allegedly taking his watch and other jewellery.

They fled the area and the 24-year-old man reported the incident to police.

Officers attached to Newtown Local Area Command launched an investigation into the matter.

Just after 12pm today, police executed a search warrant at a home on Edgeware Road, Newtown.

During the search, police allegedly located a number of prohibited firearms, ammunition, prohibited drugs, a sum of cash and property believed to be stolen.

A 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl were arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where they were charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court tomorrow.

The 14-year-old girl was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court tomorrow.

Inquiries are continuing.
