Two charged following alleged assault and glassing in Shellharbour

Two men have been charged after a security officer was allegedly assaulted and glassed at a hotel in Shellharbour yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 9pm today, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command were called to licensed premises on Memorial Drive, following reports of an assault.

Police arrived to find a 41-year-old man had sustained serious lacerations to his head and injuries to his knees after allegedly being assaulted and struck with a glass.

The security officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a serious condition.

A crime scene was established at the hotel, which was examined by detectives and specialist forensic officers.

Two men – aged 23 and 22 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The 23-year-old man was charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and fail to quit licensed premises.

The 22-year-old was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and fail to quit licensed premises.

Both men were granted strict conditional bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 6 July 2016.
