Two charged following Mildura assault

Detectives from Mildura Crime Investigation Unit have charged two men following an alleged assault in Mildura early yesterday morning, Victoria Police say.

The incident occurred at a residential property on Seventh Street, near the intersection of Magnolia Avenue, about 1am on Sunday, 1 October.

It’s believed two male residents of the property, a 77-year-old and an 81-year-old, heard noises outside the house and went outside to investigate.

The pair were subsequently assaulted.

The 77-year-old man was conveyed to hospital in Melbourne with severe facial injuries.

The 81-year-old also suffered facial injuries and was treated locally.

A 20-year-old Knoxfield man and an 18-year-old man of no fixed place of address were arrested by police in Mildura early yesterday morning.

Both have been charged with Intentional Cause Serious Injury, Recklessly Cause Serious Injury, Intentionally Cause Injury, Recklessly Cause Injury, Common Law Assault, Assault in Company, and Wilful Damage.

They were remanded to appear at Mildura Magistrate’s Court today.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw any suspicious activity in the area in the lead up to the alleged assault.
