Police have charged two men after multiple trees have been damaged in the state's west in since February this year.
In March 2025, officers attached to Chifley Police District have commenced an investigation following reports of multiple trees were damaged at multiple locations in Bathurst area.
Police were told a number of people allegedly removed branches of maple trees between Thursday 20 February 2025 and Thursday 17 April 2025 on Stanley Street, Rankin Street, Keppel Street and Duram Street, Bathurst.
The estimated value of damaged trees is $90,000.
Police established multiple crime scenes and commenced an investigation into the incident.
About 6am today (Monday 28 April 2025), police were called to Keppel Street, Bathurst following reports of two unknown men allegedly damaging maple trees.
On arrival, officers arrested two men – aged 37 and 31 – before they seized a van with a large quantity of detached maple tree branches in it.
They were taken to Bathurst Police Station where they were both charged with two counts of steal plant etc value more than $15000.
They were granted conditional bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday 11 June 2025.
