Two people will face court charged following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery at a business near Newcastle earlier this month.
About 3.40am on Friday 12 September 2025, police were called to a licensed premises on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, following reports of an armed robbery.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police district were told a man entered the business and threatened staff with a firearm before leaving with cash on the back of an e-bike being ridden by another person. No injuries were reported.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Mesport with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.
About 11am on Wednesday 24 September 2025, police executed a search warrant at a storage unit in Newcastle West.
During the search, police allegedly located and seized a bag containing $30,020 cash.
Later that day, police executed a search warrant at a home on James Street, Hamilton, where they allegedly located and seized an e-scooter and a helmet.
About 7.30am today (Friday 26 September 2025), police arrested a 46-year-old man at Newcastle Police Station.
Police will allege in court that the man entered the premises with a firearm before leaving with cash.
He was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, and acquire etc firearm – subject to prohibition order.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Friday 26 September 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 26 November 2025.
Following further inquiries, police arrested a 44-year-old woman at a home on Westcourt Road, New Lambton, about 12.35pm today (Friday 26 September 2025).
Police will allege in court that the woman – an employee of the licensed premises who was working at the time of the incident – assisted in the incident.
She was taken to Waratah Police Station where she was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.
She was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 27 September 2025).
Inquiries into the incident are continuing under Strike Force Mesport.
