Two charged over vehicle theft, NSW

Two people have been charged following investigations into the theft of a car at Port Stephens earlier this week, NSW Police say.

About 5.30am on Thursday (6 September 2018), a man noticed the garage of his home on Recluse Court at Boat Harbour had been broken into and his black Range Rover stolen.

Police were alerted and officers from Newcastle City Police District commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers attended a home on Morpeth Road at Waratah West about 1.30pm today (Saturday 8 September 2018), where they located and seized a black Range Rover.

Two men – aged 24 and 30 – were arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.

Police will allege in court, the men stole a BMW from a Fletcher address and were involved in a pursuit with police earlier this week. The BMW was recovered a shortly after.

The 24-year-old was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and drive whilst suspended.

The older man was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Bail Court today (Sunday 9 September 2018).
