Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in Toolern Vale this morning.
State Highway Patrol Solo Unit officers were conducting a vehicle intercept on Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road when they observed a vehicle travelling at high speed.
The vehicle continued along Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road before it collided head-on with a second vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
The drivers of both vehicles, who are yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
A passenger of the first vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.
Professional Standards Command will have oversight of the investigation as is standard procedure with a fatal collision following recent police contact.
