A man and woman were detained overnight after two police officers were assaulted following a domestic incident in Holroyd Local Area Command, NSW Police say.
About 11.55pm on Friday 5 May 2017 police were responding to a domestic incident in Sherwood Road at Merrylands when the officers saw a man and woman arguing outside the premises.
When police attempted to speak with the couple a 19-year-old woman attempted to run into the traffic.
Police subdued the woman and called for Ambulance paramedics to assist with conveying her to a medical facility.
While waiting, the woman was able to run to the rear of a unit block with police following and the officers were eventually able to detain her.
Whilst restraining the woman, the 19-year-old man punched one officer to the side of his face, and a scuffle ensued, where OC spray was deployed.
The man was arrested and taken to Merrylands Police Station while the woman was conveyed to Westmead Hospital for assessment.
Whilst at the hospital the 19-year-old woman allegedly kicked a female officer several times to the leg and spat at her.
The woman remains at hospital undergoing an assessment but will be charged by police upon her release.
The 19-year-old man was charged with assault police and is to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 24 May 2017.
Both police officers were able to continue with their duties after medical checks.
