Two in custody after Armidale hotel manager threatened with tomahawk

Two men are in police custody after a hotel manager was threatened with a tomahawk during an attempted armed robbery in Armidale this morning.

Police have been told the manager was in the hotel on Marsh Street shortly before 2am (Thursday 9 January 2020), when he was confronted by two men armed men demanding cash.

Despite being chased by the men through the building, the manager was able to dial Triple Zero (000); officers from New England Police District arrived and arrested a man as he was trying to leave the scene in a stolen car.

Following inquiries, another man was arrested at a home on Niagra Street Armidale; investigations are underway into the whereabouts of a third man.

A crime scene has been established at the hotel and detectives are now speaking with the two men.
