Two men assaulted by trio in East Melbourne

Police have released mobile phone footage after two men were seriously assaulted by a trio in East Melbourne last night, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told that the two men, aged 61 and 45, were walking along Wellington Parade when they were approached by three unknown men about 12.10am.

A verbal altercation took place and the two victims were then assaulted by the trio.

The 61-year-old from Rosebud was punched to the head approximately 17 times with the offender then stomping on him while his 45-year-old friend from Mount Evelyn was assaulted by the two other offenders.

The unknown offenders then fled the scene on foot and were last seen running towards Clarendon Street and the Fitzroy Gardens.

The assault was filmed by witnesses who were in the area at the time. A man was also filmed at the scene and assisted the injured pair.

Police are today releasing the mobile phone footage and urge the three unknown men filmed to hand themselves into police.

Both of the injured men were taken to hospital for treatment.

The 61-year-old suffered serious facial injuries while the 45-year-old is being treated for a possible broken arm.

The three unknown offenders are described as being Caucasian, with one wearing Richmond Football Club clothing.

Anyone who witnessed the assault or who may be able to identify the three unknown men in the vision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
