Two men have been arrested after two police officers were allegedly assaulted in Byron Bay early this morning, NSW Police say.
About 2am (Friday 22 June 2018), police were called to a nightclub on Jonson Street, after two men became aggressive toward security guards when they were told to leave.
During an attempt to arrest the men, a struggle ensued during which the officers were assaulted.
The pair fled the area and police commenced inquiries.
About 10.40am today, two men, aged 28 and 29, attended Byron Bay Police Station where they were arrested.
The 29-year-old was charged with assault police cause actual bodily harm (x2), resist police, incite to resist/hinder police officer, use offensive language in public place and remain in vicinity by excluded person.
The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 23 June 2018).
The 28-year-old was charged with resist officer in execution of their duty and remain in vicinity by excluded person.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 23 June 2018).
The leading senior constable sustained stomach, finger, neck and chin injuries.
The constable sustained leg and shoulder injuries.
