Two men charged following armed robbery in Alexandria

Police have charged two men following the armed robbery of a Newsagency at Alexandria this week, NSW Police say.

Police will allege just after 1pm on Monday (17 December 2018), two men entered a newsagency on Maddox Street, one armed with a pistol.

The armed man allegedly threatened a 49-year-old female employee before stealing cash and cigarettes from the store, along with the employee’s mobile phone containing her two credit cards.

The pair then ran from the store.

Police were called and officers from Redfern Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries.

About 12.10pm on Tuesday (18 December 2018), police arrested a 36-year-old man at Redfern Park following a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with robbery armed with a dangerous weapon.

He appeared in Central Local Court on Wednesday (19 December 2018) and was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 14 February 2019.

Following inquires, investigators arrested a second man at his Waterloo home on Wednesday (19 December 2018).

The 39-year-old man was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with robbery armed with a dangerous weapon.

He appeared in Central Local Court yesterday (Thursday 20 December 2018) and was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 14 February 2019.
