Two men charged following Mooroopna assaults

Two men have been charged following a number of alleged assaults in Mooroopna over the weekend, Victoria Police say.

It’s alleged police were responding to reports of a brawl on Elizabeth Street about 3am on Sunday when two men ran at police.

A 19-year-old man then allegedly punched a police member in the side of the head, causing him to lose consciousness and fall onto the bonnet of the police car.

As backup arrived the offenders fled the scene on foot.

The member was taken to hospital.

It’s alleged that while the offenders hid in a nearby property they assaulted a Mooroopna man, breaking his jaw.

The pair then allegedly went to a further two homes in the area where they caused significant damage to the properties.

A 19-year-old Mooroopna man has been charged with assault cause serious injury, assaulting police and criminal damage.

A 26-year-old Mooroopna man has been charged with assault cause serious injury and criminal damage.

Both will appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on 1 May.
