Two men rescued after boat sank off Port MacDonnell, SA

Two men from the Limestone Coast were rescued by another fisherman after their boat sank off Port MacDonnell this evening, according to SA Police.

About 7pm on Thursday 29 December, the two men, aged 35 and 69, were out in a 14 and a half foot boat when the anchor rope caught around the propeller. Their boat took on water and sank about two kilometres off Orwell Rocks, Port MacDonnell.

Fortunately, both men were wearing lifejackets and, after spending about ten minutes in the water, were spotted and rescued by another recreational fisherman.

Their vessel and all their gear were lost, but both men survived their ordeal without injury. While they were shaken up by the incident, both men told police that had they not been wearing their life jackets the outcome could have been a lot worse.

Police wish to thank the fisherman for his quick actions and David and Trevor for sharing their story to highlight the need to ALWAYS WEAR A LIFEJACKET.
