Two More Boys Charged After Erskineville-Mascot Chase

A further two teenage boys have been charged following a pursuit from Erskineville to Mascot at the weekend.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attempted to stop a car on Erskineville Road, Erskineville, about 12.35am Sunday (29 June 2025).

Checks revealed the car had been reported stolen from Mascot between Friday night (27 June 2025), and Saturday morning (28 June 2025).

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated before the hatchback hit a pole on Botany Road, Mascot.

Six boys – five aged 14 and one aged 15 – allegedly ran from the vehicle after the crash, before they were arrested nearby with assistance from PolAir and officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command.

The alleged driver – a 14-year-old boy – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

The passengers were taken to the same hospital.

Police established a crime scene with officers attached to Strike Force Sweetenham commencing an investigation into the incident.

A balaclava, gloves and mobile phones were seized when the car was searched. All have been taken for further examination.

Two passengers – both aged 14 – were charged on Sunday and remain before the court.

The alleged driver, aged 14, and a passenger, aged 15, were released from hospital yesterday (Tuesday 1 July 2025), and taken to Mascot Police Station.

The younger boy has been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The older boy has been charged with be carried in conveyance without consent of owner.

Each child has also been charged with breach of bail.

They have been refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Wednesday 2 July 2025).

Two boys remain in hospital under police guard.
