Two teenage boys appeared in court yesterday on charges relating to the theft of two firearms from a vehicle in the state's north east.
Between 9.30pm Wednesday 4 September 2019 and 6.30am Thursday 5 September 2019, two firearms were stolen from the footwell of a vehicle parked on Little Barber Street at Gunnedah.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were notified of the theft after the ute was found resting against a boundary fence with both firearms and several other items missing.
About 3.45pm on Tuesday 10 September 2019, police arrested a 17-year-old boy at an address on the Oxley Highway at Gunnedah following investigations.
About 8.30am yesterday (Wednesday 11 September 2019), a second teenager was arrested at a home on Connadilly Street at Gunnedah in relation to the incident.
Both teenagers were taken to Gunnedah Police Station and each were charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal less than $60,000, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of larceny, and possess unauthorised firearm.
They appeared before a Children's Court yesterday (Wednesday 11 September 2019) and were again refused bail to reappear on Tuesday 17 September 2019.
Further investigations will be made by Oxley Rural Crime Prevention Team and numerous additional charges are expected to be laid.
