Two teens charged over assault of shop owner in Eastwood

Two teens have been charged over the alleged assault of a shop owner in Sydney’s North West earlier this month, NSW Police say.

About 12.45pm on Monday 6 August 2018, a group of teenagers entered a shop on Rowe Street, Eastwood and allegedly attempted to steal sunglasses.

The 57-year-old male store owner asked the group to leave and as he escorted the last girl out of the store, she allegedly punched him in the face.

He walked outside the store and was approached by two of the boys from the group who allegedly assaulted him further. The group then fled the scene.

The man was taken to Ryde Hospital and treated for facial injuries.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.


An investigation was commenced by local detectives.

About 7.45am yesterday (Friday 17 August 2018), Ryde detectives arrested a 15-year-old girl at a home at Eastwood.

She was taken to Ryde Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and affray.

Following further inquiries, a 15-year-old boy was arrested by investigators at North Rocks about 11.15am yesterday.

He was taken to Ryde Police Station and was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others and affray.

They were both granted conditional bail and are due to appear in a children’s court on Monday 10 September 2018.

Investigations are continuing.
