At approximately 2.15pm on Saturday 29 December 2018 a two vehicle crash occurred on the Golconda Road, Lebrina, near 606 Golconda Road, Tasmania Police say.
The crash occurred when a grey Mitsubishi Challenger, 4WD, travelling towards Lebrina has crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided with a black Mercedes Sedan which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Launceston.
The Mitsubishi was being driven by a 52 year old female from Newnham. This female and her 53 year old male passenger were conveyed to the LGH by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The Mercedes was being driven by a 69 year old female from Lebrina. The female died at the scene.
Golconda Road was closed for approximately 7 hours whilst Crash Investigation and Forensic Service Personnel investigated the crash.
At the time of the crash the weather was fine and the road was dry. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation but initial enquiries at the scene indicate that speed and inattention may have been contributing causes.
Our thoughts are with the family at this time.
Tasmania Police would like to remind motorists of the “Fatal Five” and urge vigilance and caution by road users pleading for care, attention and adherence to the Road Rules and Regulations particularly over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
