Western police yesterday charged two separate motorists with excessive speed and other traffic offences, Tasmania Police say.
A 30-year-old Ulverstone man was detected travelled at 152km/h in the 110km/h zone towards Elizabeth Town on the Bass Highway. He was also unlicensed and tested positive to drugs (amphetamine) in his system. This was the second time in two days the man was intercepted by police and tested positive to driving with drugs in his system. He will be summonsed to appear before the Devonport Court.
A 32-year-old Latrobe man was detected travelling at 104km/h in a 50km/h zone in Latrobe. He also tested positive for alcohol in his system, returning a breath alcohol reading of 0.081. He was charged and bailed to appear at a Devonport Court. His vehicle was clamped for a period of 28 days.
"In the lead up to the football finals this month it’s especially timely to remind motorists that speeding and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol is extremely dangerous," said Sergeant Shane Flude from Western RPOS.
"You face a fine and your vehicle being clamped or confiscated, but worse, you risk seriously injuring or killing yourself or someone else."
