Giving aviation engineers the tools to maximise safe aircraft maintenance is the focus of the latest safety seminar from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in Tyabb next week.
Humans are very adaptable and effective problem solvers who are able to resolve issues with limited information, but the downside of our performance is our capability for human error.
Next week's safety seminar in Tyabb will focus on how the limitations of human performance can affect aviation safety in a maintenance or airworthiness environment.
Factors that can influence how well you perform maintenance can include stress, fatigue, communication, complacency, knowledge, your work environment, and the resources and tools you need to help you do the job.
CASA's Tim Penney says the seminar is a mix of theory and practical tips, with participants encouraged to share their own experiences.
'We use real-life examples to show the relevance of the topics and encourage everyone to become familiar with our Human Factors Guide for Engineers, which is available for free on our website,' Tim says.
'As some rules have changed and others are under development, we also touch on aspects of Part 43, air transport operations continuing airworthiness and future relevant regulation consultations.'
'Basically, we want everyone who attends to walk out with the tools to use to avoid and reduce poor outcomes and a greater awareness of safety related-issues and human vulnerabilities.'
CASA's aviation safety advisors host free seminars for anyone with a career in airworthiness or maintenance at locations around Australia year-round to encourage to refresh their knowledge and improve their safety.
Engineers are encouraged to ask questions about rules and regulations or raise any safety issues.
The Tyabb engineering safety seminar will be held on Wednesday 22 March 2023 at 3-5 pm at Peninsula Aero Club.
