UK Gov Introduces New Special Import Certificate Service

A pilot of the new special import certificate service is now live.

We will soon replace the old special import scheme platform with this new improved service through our digital platform, VMDS.

Before we fully switch over, we need vets to pilot the service by submitting real applications to help us test and refine the system.Sign-up to take part.

The new application page is much easier to navigate with helpful notes, simplified questions, and type-ahead drop-down menus to guide you through your application and to provide all the information we need.

You can now view and download certificates issued to both you and others associated with your practice account to help manage your practices' certificates and view your applications that require our assessment.

Improved accessibility allows you to use mobile devices and save draft applications to resume later.

We have also introduced formatting changes to the certificates themselves to make key information clearer.

Learn more about the pilot and register to start using the new platform today. All certificates issued during the pilot are valid.

Once registered, your new VMDS account will allow you to associate with a registered veterinary practice premise and create an account administrator. Multiple veterinary surgeons can associate with the same practice premise and individual vets may associate with multiple premises. To register, all you need are your RCVS login credentials.

The old service will continue to be available throughout the pilot.

If the product you are looking for is not listed in the type-ahead drop-down menu you will need to submit your application using the old platform. We are planning to release more functionality soon that will resolve this.

Those not wishing to use the pilot service, or seeking a Wholesale Dealer Import Certificate or Research Import Certificate, you can continue to submit your application through the existing special import scheme platform.
