UK provides £1M aid for typhoon-hit communities in the Philippines, funding cash assistance, shelter repair, and vital services through global partners.
Manila, Philippines - The UK is providing £1 million (PHP 77 million) in humanitarian assistance to support the Philippines' response to Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
The funding will help provide life-saving services and essential supplies, including multi-purpose cash assistance and kits to repair damaged shelter, to some of the most affected communities.
British Ambassador Sarah Hulton OBE said:
The UK stands with the Philippines as a trusted partner to deliver practical solutions in times of need. This support drives recovery and strengthens communities for the future.
The assistance will support World Food Programme's work with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to provide cash assistance, helping affected individuals meet their immediate needs.
Part of the funding will be directed to the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) programme providing shelter and shelter repair kits for those who have lost their homes.
The UK is also supporting women's rights organisations and women-led organisations through First Response Fund for the Philippines, enabling them to provide life-saving assistance, including food, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and sexual and reproductive health services to the most vulnerable.
His Majesty, King Charles III earlier sent a message expressing his deep concern about the losses from the recent disasters.
The assistance forms part of UK's wider humanitarian response. The UK is a major contributor to global humanitarian funds. This includes support for the Start Ready fund, which released more than £1 million, and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, which has released US$ 5.95 million in anticipatory action response.
