GENEVA - The UN Independent Expert on the effects of foreign debt and other related international financial obligations of States on the full enjoyment of all human rights, particularly economic, social and cultural rights, Attiya Waris, will visit Tajikistan from 17 to 28 August 2026.
During her visit, the expert will examine a wide range of issues related to poverty, fiscal affairs and debt, and their implications for human rights. She will also explore issues related to youth and intergenerational issues, landlocked countries, and high seas - as well as on impacts of domestic economic and financial policies on human rights.
Waris will meet with Government ministries and authorities in charge of taxation, finance, trade, women's affairs, and human rights. She will also meet with civil society, international financial institutions, UN agencies, and private sector. She will be visiting Dushanbe and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast.
