UN Experts on African Descent Heading to Mexico

GENEVA - The Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent will conduct a visit to Mexico from 11 to 20 May 2026.

The experts will gather information on any forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance, and assess the overall human rights situation of Africans and people of African descent in Mexico. They will also promote the Second International Decade for People of African Descent (2025-2034).

The Working Group delegation, composed of Isabelle Mamadou and Catherine Namakula, will meet with representatives from the government, national institutions, the legislative and judicial branches, as well as people and communities of African descent. They will also meet with civil society organisations and individuals who work on issues related to racism and racial discrimination.

The Working Group is visiting the country at the invitation of the Government and will travel to Guerrero (Acapulco, Cuajinicuilapa and El Azufre) and Veracruz (Córdoba and Yanga).
