UN Signs Chile's Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework

The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Chile and the Minister of Foreign Affairs led the signing of the Cooperation Framework 2023-2026, along with state ministers and representatives of the United Nations System in Chile.

The Cooperation Framework is the result of joint work between the government and UN Chile carried out over the past year. The analysis of the country's situation allowed for the establishment of strategic priorities and lines of action to advance towards sustainable development. During the process, the UN Chile team coordinated multiple instances of participation to listen and incorporate ideas from different partners in the public, private, academic, and civil society sectors.

This joint strategy aims to support the country in reducing gaps and realizing substantive equality in the access and full exercise of human rights; contribute to the strengthening of democratic institutions, social cohesion and citizen security; continue to generate prosperity with greater equity while facing the triple planetary crisis; and advance towards gender equality as the axis of development and the engine of a more egalitarian and diverse society.

María José Torres, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, highlighted the relevance of this joint strategy of UN Chile and the government, "it frames the work with the different instances of the State, and also the relationship with civil society, with academia, with the private sector, with people living in territories that have traditionally been left behind; they are an integral part of this development agenda that Chile commits to reaching by 2030 by improving its sustainable development indicators."

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, pointed out that "the result of this work will allow progress in national challenges and highlight the important contribution that the United Nations System makes to the country's development. Also, it will enhance our work abroad and Chile's commitment to multilateralism, respect for international law, the promotion of democracy, and our attachment to the minimum civilization standards represented by the 2030 Agenda."
