Producers who have previously been unable to gain access to new water can now put in an EOI, giving much opportunity for business growth and higher production rates for their farm business. Unallocated water is water that hasn't been assigned to anyone and can be set aside for future use without compromising water security or harming the environment. The general reserve unallocated water that has been released by the department can be used for any purpose, unlike various other types of unallocated water.
The department will collect information through the EOI's to help understand the demand for unallocated water across different catchments in Queensland and help in the planning of future water releases.
