Understanding PBS Scheme while we seek improvement

National Road Transport Association

In 2017, NatRoad had a short list of items that we wanted Government to action to improve the PBS scheme.

They included reviewing regulations (such as Vehicle Standards) that are a barrier to innovation, developing a simplified PBS scheme for popular and older trucks and having nationally harmonised assessment guidelines. These areas are still crying out for action and we said so in two submissions made to the HVNL review.

Fundamental reform of the scheme will remain on the NatRoad agenda and we will lobby the incoming Government on this issue.

Meanwhile, NatRoad has asked the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to present a webinar on the PBS scheme to show members how to use the scheme effectively and how to ensure that the routes you want to take are available for the PBS vehicle you operate.
