UNDP, Ireland Boost Ties to Advance Global Goals

The Government of Ireland has reaffirmed its partnership with UNDP by committing EUR7.75 million (approximately USD9 million) in flexible core resources through a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding for 2024-2025. This timely investment comes as the world faces health emergencies, climate change, conflict and natural disasters. Ireland's support will enable UNDP to respond swiftly to crises, safeguard people's lives and livelihoods, and protect hard-won development progress.

Aligned with UNDP's Strategic Plan 2026-2029, this funding will strengthen integrated, scalable solutions that promote human development while protecting our planet. Core funding empowers UNDP to adapt rapidly to shifting needs and to prioritise support for the most vulnerable communities, especially women and girls who often face the greatest risk.

From Ukraine to Gaza, Sudan, and beyond, this contribution helps protect development gains and build resilience in fragile contexts. Core resources also allow UNDP to act as a multiplier of development finance, mobilising other resources for every dollar received. They also underpin UNDP's oversight and accountability functions, ensuring that programmes are delivered effectively, efficiently, and transparently.

Ireland's renewed commitment underscores its steadfast dedication to multilateralism and to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, highlighting the critical role of collective action in addressing today's complex challenges. UNDP looks forward to continuing its strong collaboration with Ireland and to advancing our shared mission for a more equitable and prosperous world, where no one is left behind.
