UNE Math Club featured in 'Press Herald' article

UNE students who participated in the Maine Digital Festival at the Augusta Civic Center were featured in an article in the Portland Press Herald.

The goal of the event is to show students, as young as kindergarteners, that coding can be fun.

Students from UNE's Math Club setup an obstacle course of fake mushrooms. Children who successfully assembled, or coded, their Code-a-pillars to make it through the maze of mushrooms received a prize.

Jennifer Fatula, M.A., Math Club advisor, told the Press Herald most of the youngsters who took part successfully completed the task.

UNE student Shawn Pilling volunteered at the event. He told the Press Herald he and his fellow students wanted to help get children interested in coding at an early age.
