  • Treasurer

Victoria's regional unemployment is the lowest in the nation, with more and more people finding work outside Melbourne.

New Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data shows, an extra 10,200 people found a job in regional Victoria in the three months to February, more than double the number of jobs created in regional NSW.

Victoria's regional unemployment rate is 4.6 per cent – the lowest regional unemployment rate in Australia.

Areas that experienced the highest employment growth in regional Victoria in the three months to February were Geelong, and Warrnambool and South West.

Since the Andrews Labor Government was elected in November 2014, 68,500 jobs have been created in regional Victoria – 84 per cent of them full time.

As stated by Treasurer Tim Pallas

"Every job in regional Victoria is a boost for a local community – and means people can continue to live and work in the region they love."

As stated by Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes

"Whether it's cuts to regional payroll tax, improving local infrastructure or helping first home buyers, we are making investments that matter to regional Victoria."
