Unemployment Rate At All-time Low In Tasmania

Tasmanian Government

Labour market data released by the ABS today shows record low unemployment for Tasmania of 3.9 per cent in March 2025.

The figures also show 282,372 Tasmanians were employed, over 47,000 more that March 2014 when the Liberal Government was first elected.

The latest good news continues more than three years of unemployment at or below 4.2 per cent and comes off the back of NAB's business survey showing Tasmania is leading the nation in business confidence.

Treasurer, Guy Barnett, said the latest data shows our plan for Tasmania is working.

"These figures show that, despite economic challenges across Australia and across the world, Tasmania's economy is strong and resilient under the economic management of our Liberal Government," the Treasurer said.

"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future backs in business and our economy, and has delivered the lowest unemployment rate in history.

"This unemployment rate is more than half of what it was at the peak of the former Labor-Green Government's 2013 recession, when it reached nearly 8 per cent.

"There are now 47,000 more Tasmanians employed today than when we came to Government in 2014.

"Jobs are looking for people in Tasmania, which is why we are working hard to invest in our economy and in training initiatives and work with industry to grow our labour force and increase our participation rate.

"Tasmanians know that we will focus on what matters – jobs, investment and economic growth - to ensure Tasmania is the best place to live, work and raise a family."
