Statement from Australian Services Union NSW & ACT Secretary Angus McFarland on the introduction of Baby Priya's Bill to Federal Parliament today.
Baby Priya's mother is a valued member of the ASU.
"Our union welcomes Baby Priya's Bill being introduced to Federal Parliament today. This vital Bill will make sure workers, including our members, are guaranteed employer-paid paid parental leave if they experience the tragic loss of a child," Mr McFarland said.
"Baby Priya's Bill will give parents the compassion and support they deserve during a time of unimaginable grief. No parent mourning the loss of a child should be forced back to work early or face financial strain, and under this Bill they won't have to.
"We pay tribute to Baby Priya's parents who have courageously advocated to ensure no other parent ever has to face the uncertainty of having their paid parental leave cancelled and returning to work early after losing a child.
"We are proud to have stood by our member throughout their campaign and sincerely thank the Albanese Government for addressing this matter with compassion and perseverance."
