Unions put politics before safety on site

Reckless work bans put in place by the Community and Public Sector Union directly threaten the safety of all Tasmanian workers.

The CPSU today has issued a direction to its union-affiliated WorkSafe Tasmania staff based in Hobart and Launceston not to issue infringement and improvement notices.

This reckless action by the CPSU has no place in sensible workplace negotiations.

The CPSU is also unlawfully compromising the ability of hard-working workplace inspectors to carry out their duties under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012.

We believe Tasmania’s hardworking public servants deserve a pay rise, but it must be fair, it must be sustainable, and it must be affordable.

At present there is an offer of a six per cent wage increase over three years on the table.

It’s a fair offer which allows the Government to continue to invest record amounts into the services and infrastructure our growing State needs.

The CPSU should consider the safety of Tasmanian building and construction workers and withdraw this reckless direction immediately.
