UNITAR Prosperity Shenzhen Hosts First Meeting

• UNITAR and Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (Greater Bay Area) held an inaugural meeting to begin working together to advance sustainable innovation.

24 June 2025, Shenzhen, China - UNITAR Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (Greater Bay Area [GBA]) held its inaugural meeting to begin its work in deepening international cooperation and advancing sustainable innovation. It follows the signing of the letter of agreement between UNITAR and Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA) on 11 April 2025. The inaugural meeting focused on aligning the Alliance's mission, vision, core objectives and strategic workplan with UNITAR's mandate.

In the meeting, Mr. Dong Haitao, Director of the Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA) Working Committee, underscored the centre's commitment to building an integrated government-enterprise-academia innovation platform to support high-quality regional development. "We aim to amplify Shenzhen's pioneering experience to the world, especially in using AI to empower rural revitalization and bridge the digital divide", he said.

UNITAR complimented Shenzhen's leadership in sustainable development and AI innovation.

Shenzhen's work in this space is remarkable. UNITAR is fully committed to supporting joint training development, knowledge exchange and global network integration. Together, we will co-create a responsible global AI empowerment ecosystem.

UNITAR and Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA) reaffirmed their commitment to building a global platform for knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and the promotion of innovative solutions. With AI emerging as a flagship strength of Shenzhen, both parties will work together to transform pioneering local practices into global learning resources.

To conclude the meeting, UNITAR presented official letters of appointment to members of the Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA) Working Committee. Establishing the Prosperity Alliance in Shenzhen represents a significant milestone in the city's efforts to integrate local innovation with global sustainable development priorities.

The UNITAR Prosperity Alliance develops and promotes projects in social and economic development, frontier technology, trade and business facilitation, climate actions and more in corresponding regions. It showcases sustainable economic development practices, international exchanges and talent training for sustainable economic development. The activities of the Prosperity Alliance target local, national and regional authorities, representatives of international organizations, civil society organizations, private companies and academic institutions, based on the specificities and capacity-building needs of the region.
