Unlawful use of a motor vehicle charges, Brisbane south

Police have charged a man after a car was allegedly stolen at gunpoint and driven dangerously through Brisbane’s Southside today, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged around 12.30pm the man attended an address on Janice Street at Sunnybank to test drive a vehicle which had been advertised for sale.

As the car approached Mount Gravatt Capalaba Road the man allegedly pulled out a firearm and ordered the 23-year-old male owner and his friend out of the vehicle.

It is further alleged police later observed the stolen vehicle travelling along Holmead Road at Eight Mile Plains and attempted to make an intercept.

The car failed to stop, driving away at speed northbound along the Gateway Motorway.

Police followed the vehicle until it accelerated and began weaving through traffic, disappearing from view.

The man later dumped the alleged stolen vehicle at Tingalpa, approached a female resident and requested a lift to Manly.

The woman complied and drove the man to a location near Hemmant Quarry where he left the vehicle and she phoned police.

Officers tracked the man as he ran through properties and bushland along Hemmant Tingalpa and Fleming Roads.

He was located hiding in bushland and taken into custody by SERT officers without further incident.

A 29-year-old Manly man has been charged with armed robbery, two counts of deprivation of liberty and one count each of dangerous operation, unlawful possession of weapon, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 29.

Investigations are continuing.
