Unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Robina, QLD

Police have charged a two teenagers following an unlawful use of a motor vehicle incident in Robina yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.

At around 5:20pm Polair observed a vehicle which had been allegedly stolen from Jacobs Well early yesterday morning being driven through Logan.

The vehicle was tracked to an address in Sunningdale Circuit where two occupants were allegedly observed entering a residence.

Officers, including members of the dog squad, attended the address where it will be alleged a dog at the residence became aggressive, attacking a police dog.

The officer attempted to remove the dog before being forced to remove his service weapon and discharge a shot into the dog from the residence.

The dog was subsequently transported to an emergency veterinary clinic but unfortunately died during surgery.

The police dog was not seriously injured during the incident.

A 16-year-old Robina boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.

A 14-year-old Hope Island girl has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The incident will be reviewed by Ethical Standards Command as per normal procedure where a police firearm is discharged.

The Queensland Police Service has been liaising with the family of the deceased dog to offer support.
