A man has been charged following an incident on the Gold Coast overnight, 17 January, that involved alleged dangerous driving causing injury to police horses and officers.
Around 12.20am, police from the Mounted Unit patrolling Surfers Paradise stopped a red Ducati motorcycle on Elkhorn Avenue.
When officers approached to speak with the rider on horseback, it will be alleged he accelerated away, striking two police horses.
As a result, one of the officers was thrown from the horse.
Both the officer and police horses sustained minor injuries.
The rider, a 40-year-old Southport man, was taken into custody immediately at the scene and has since been charged with two counts of unlawfully killing or injuring a police horse, one count of driving without due care and attention, and one count of drive under the influence.
He is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on the 22 February.
