Unlawfully set fire to property, TAS

On Saturday the 5th of January 2019 at around 12:40am the Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police were called to a fire in Cameron Street, Launceston.  It was found that a deliberately lit fire had destroyed a motor vehicle and caused significant damage to a second motor vehicle and an adjacent building.  The building primarily suffered smoke damage, Tasmania Police say.

The estimated value of the damage caused is approximately $75,000.

As a result of investigations a 35 year old woman was arrested and charged with several fire related offences.  She was detained to appear in an after-hours court.

Police would like to speak with any members of the public who observed any suspicious activity in the area of Cameron Street and Wellington Street at around 12:40am on Saturday the 5th of January 2019.
