The Security Council meets today to discuss threats to international peace and security, specifically in response to Israel's attack on Iran, including its nuclear installations, on Thursday.
The meeting was requested by Iran in a letter that its Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, sent to the Security Council earlier today.
Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, and Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA), will brief the 15-member Council. Iran, Israel, Iraq and Kuwait will participate in the meeting under rule 37 of the Council's provisional rules of procedure.
