As part of North East Link Project works, a full closure of the Eastern Freeway will occur between Bulleen Road and Doncaster Road from 7:00pm Saturday 6 December to 5:00am Monday 8 December.
The closure will allow NELP to complete critical works that were postponed in November due to heavy rainfall.
These works will ensure NELP can progress the construction of overhead connections into the North East Link tunnels in Bulleen in early 2026.
What's expected
Significant travel delays of up to 90 minutes are expected over this weekend's closure, particularly during midday peak on Sunday.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and avoid the area where possible.
The closure will also impact the broader road network, with increased traffic expected on Doncaster Road, Tram Road, Manningham Road and Middleborough Road.
On-ramps leading to the closed section of the freeway will also be closed to help distribute traffic and minimise delays. Electronic signs and detours will be in place to guide road users throughout the weekend.
Closed on-ramps will include:
- Chandler Highway Ringwood-bound
- Elgar Road citybound
- Middleborough Road citybound
- Blackburn Road citybound
- Springvale Road citybound
No parking or stopping allowed along Doncaster Road between Greythorn and Burke roads and at the intersection of Doncaster and Burke roads.
Right-turn bans in place at key intersections on Doncaster Road to help ease traffic congestion:
- Thompsons Road into Manningham Road
- Manningham Road into High Street
- Doncaster Road into Elgar Road
- Doncaster Road into Tram Road
