Upcoming hard and bundled green waste collection

Residents are encouraged to clean up and reduce the fire fuel load on their properties with Cardinia Shire Council's upcoming residential hard and bundled green waste collections.

The hard waste collection commences on Monday 28 October and will run through five zones across the shire over five weeks.

Additionally, two free residential green waste drop-off weekends will take place at Future Recycling Transfer Station (8-11 Nov) and Lysterfield Resource Recovery Centre (15– 18 Nov).

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Graeme Moore encouraged residents to make use of Council's hard waste collections and green waste drop-off events in order to best prepare their properties for the upcoming fire season.

"It's up to everyone to prepare their properties for summer. Council is encouraging residents to start preparing for the fire danger period, and our hard and bundled green waste collection events are a fantastic way to get started by disposing of waste around the home," Cr Moore said.

To ensure each truck can collect the correct waste type for recycling or disposal, hard waste collection items should be stacked into five piles:

  1. general waste
  2. e-waste
  3. scrap metal and whitegoods
  4. mattresses and couches
  5. bundled/tied green waste.

The green waste drop-off events are a free service accepting residential amounts of green waste, including: flowers, garden prunings, grass clippings, leaves, tree branches and trunks (up to 30 centimetres wide and 1 metre long), and weeds.

Residents must present photo ID as proof of residence within Cardinia Shire to access the free service. Waste will only be accepted from residential vehicles and trailers; commercial business operators cannot use this service.
