Stage Three works of the Bouddi Coastal Walk Upgrade are scheduled to commence on 19 April 2021, following school holidays.
The works involve the upgrade of 11 sections of the track between Gerrin Point and Maitland Bay.
The work will repair eroded sections of the track, including the resurfacing of approximately 650 metres of eroded pathway and the installation of 90 sandstone steps. Two new lookout sites will be installed along this section. One site will provide views over Smugglers Cove and to the south towards the northern beaches and Sydney. The other site will provide views over beautiful Maitland Bay.
This work will take 14 weeks and will improve accessibility and visitor safety as well as enhance visitor experience on this popular walking track.
Spectacular coastline
This section of the track provides spectacular coastal views and is one of the most frequently visited sections of the entire walk. Its coastal aspect and varied vegetation types make this section arguably one of the best coastal walks on the Central Coast. Looking out, you might see white-bellied sea eagles or peregrine falcons gliding in search of prey. If you are lucky, you can spot dolphins and even turtles. A visit in winter will provide you with the opportunity to view humpback whales on their northern migration.
Temporary closures
To ensure visitor safety during construction, temporary closures of the track between Gerrin Point and Maitland Bay will be required.
The track will be closed for 14 weeks from 19 April until 16 July 2021. There will be no detour in place.
Due to the remote location of the work, materials will be flown in by helicopter on 21 April 2021. During helicopter operations the Putty Beach day use area, carpark and the walking access to Gerrin Point will be closed.
Visitors should check the website before visiting the park and adhere to any signs or directions from staff for their own safety.

Bouddi proves popular over summer
As expected, the summer of 2020-21 has seen a rise in visitor numbers compared to the previous year. The rise in visitation is consistent across the whole reserve, with the section of the Bouddi Coastal Walk from Putty Beach to Gerrin Point rising from around 28,580 visitors last summer to 49,560 this summer.
This increased use is no surprise for this beautiful walking track given its close proximity to Sydney and the restrictions COVID has placed on travelling. The Stage 3 works to be undertaken will help improve the accessibility and safety of visitors and cater for increased use.
