Update – Armed robbery in Southport, QLD

Gold Coast detectives investigating the armed robbery of a pharmacy in Southport on Thursday March 22 have charged a man in relation to the incident, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged just before 7:30pm a man entered the business on Ferry Road armed with what appeared to be a long knife or gardening tool.

The man allegedly threatened a male security guard before demanding money from another male employee.

Police will further allege the man assaulted the security guard before the second employee complied with his demands, handing over a sum of cash to the man who then fled the scene.

The security guard was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries to his face and hand.

As a result of their enquiries officers took a man into custody at a Southport address yesterday evening.

A 45-year-old Southport man has been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty and armed robbery with violence.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on March 24.
