Update – Kidnapping and torture charge at Mackay, QLD

Detectives investigating the alleged kidnapping and torture of a woman last Sunday evening in Mackay have charged a second man after travelling to North Queensland to make the arrest, Queensland Police say.

Around 5.50pm on April 15, it will be alleged a group of four men and woman confronted the 39-year-old woman at an apartment complex on Gregory Street.

The group became involved in a verbal altercation before the woman was allegedly assaulted in the foyer of the complex.

The woman was then allegedly led outside by the group and forced into a vehicle where she was struck a number of times with a metal pole before being driven to a location on Connors Road at Bakers Creek.

The group then allegedly dragged the woman from the car and further assaulted her with a pole before she managed to flee and hide before contacting police.

The woman was treated at Mackay Base Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A 42-year-old Vincent man has been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count each of kidnapping and torture.

He is expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court this morning.

Police allegedly located a red Mitsubishi Pajero believed to have been used in the offence at a Cranbrook address. The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.

Investigations are continuing.
