Update of Police Operations at Devonport Cup, TAS

Police were present in large numbers again to ensure a safe and successful 2018 Devonport Cup at Tapeta Park today.  With a large crowd in attendance police ensured public safety throughout the event, including traffic movements to and from the racecourse, Tasmania Police say.

The results of the police operations were:

Acting Inspector Martin Parker said:

"Police were pleased with the behaviour of patrons at the Cup with only two minor incidents throughout the afternoon.  The behaviour displayed by the majority of patrons is to be commended and it allowed for a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere at the venue.  The degree of planning and cooperation with the race committee is greatly appreciated with such a large event."

Police operations continued after the races, with an ongoing focus on public order within the Devonport entertainment area, as revellers entered licenced establishments.  Police attended one disturbance on Best Street where two people were arrested.  Investigations are continuing relating to the incident.
